Embarrassing Conspiracy Theories: Water Fluoridation

Ever since the 1970’s the United States, along with several other countries, has been putting fluoride in the public water supplies in an effort to reduce tooth decay, and ever since there has been controversy. While some of the controversy concerns some legitimate reasons, such as cost, and effectiveness, and some safety concerns. Others concerns tend to be just outright conspiracy theories.

The two main conspiracy theories concerning water fluoridation is that the fluoride in the water is causing peoples’ intelligence to lower, and that it’s causing people to become infertile. The reason why conspiracy theorists believe this is because fluoride is a poison, and that any amount of fluoride, no matter how small the amount, is dangerous to humans.

First, if water fluoridation did cause infertility, then why hasn’t the birth rate and population gone down? Also, the fact is, is that poisons don’t infertility. Genetics, disease, radiation, and injuries to reproductive organs causes infertility.

Anatomy of a propaganda press release: Fluoride and IQ

When we find an utter piece of crap evidence, we must call it out for what it is – an deceptive, biased piece of garbage that you should NOT believe.

Here’s why. Let me run down the red flags:

This is a press release by an advocacy group. I do not approve of the practice of newspapers running PRs without context or commentary. This is not journalism but the public finds it very difficult to tell the difference. Reuters (and others) are irresponsible to do this.

The advocacy group, NYS Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. (NYSCOF), is opposed to fluoride supplements in water. They have cherry picked out of this Harvard report only what they wanted and misrepresented it.

  1. Only 5% of the world uses fluoridation because many large studies show fluoridation is totally ineffective in improving tooth decay and is dangerous to health
The best scientific information on fluoridation can be found in Dr. Paul Connett’s book, “The Case Against Fluoride,” published last year. It contains over 1200 peer reviewed studies and sound scientific reasoning showing the ineffectiveness and dangers to health from fluoride.
Also see his very informative site here (www.fluoridealert.org).

You will see a petition at this site signed by over 4000 professionals, including hundreds of dentists, hundreds of doctors, and other medical researchers calling on governments everywhere to stop fluoridation; also scientific evidence to show that it causes cancer, thyroid & pineal gland damage, broken hips from brittle bones, lowered IQ, kidney disease, and other serious health problems.

  4. Water fluoridation is one of those things that has persisted because the bureaucracy of society makes it too difficult to remove it. Water fluoridation does not prevent cavities or improve dental health in any way. This has been shown to be the case through many studies. Using fluoridated toothpaste does have some positive effects as long as one doesn’t swallow it. Drink fluoridated water may have some detrimental effects and this should be taken seriously. The bottom line is that society has no right to medicate the public water supply.

    1. That’s like saying society has no right to regulate water, electricity, charge you money for it, etc. They have every right. They are the ones providing you with clean water. Their rules, don’t like it, drink shit water instead. The amount of fluoride used in our waters is miniscule and has zero impact on health, this is fact, not fiction.
